BBC shows on Google Play in Oz

Doctor Who, The Muskateers and Sherlock are to be made available via download purchase on the Google Play platform in Australia.

Factual series Frozen Planet is also to be made available, BBCWW Australia and New Zealand’s director of business development and consumer digital Rob Leach announced at the Multi-Screen TV Summit in Sydney today.

Individual episodes will be available for A$2.99 (US$2.77), with entire seasons offered to consumers via the download-to-own platform.

Additional titles, inclusing ones set for new premium drama channel BBC First, will be released on a regular basis.

“Making the BBC’s content more widely available across digital platforms is key to our strategy, enabling us to broaden our reach, increase audience engagement with the BBC brand and deliver new revenue streams,” said Leach.

“This deal means that Google Play customers will now have some of the best known and loved British TV brands at their fingertips,” added BBCWW ANZ’s head of digital and DVD sales Lousia Bayles.

BBCWW content is already available via download on Google Play in the US, UK and Canada.
