WE tv to open US Sex Box
US cable channel WE tv has commissioned a nine-episode series based on British format Sex Box.
Relativity Television is producing the show, which comes after WE tv piloted it earlier in the year following an agreement with creator and formats rights holder Clearstory.
The format is billed as “an extreme therapy reality concept” in which couples discuss their relationship issues with a panel of experts before retiring to a camera-free, soundproof box to have sex. They then return and discuss the experience.
The original show (pictured) ran as a one-off on Channel 4 in the UK.
“Sex Box is one of the most unique and compelling show concepts we’ve ever seen, and we can’t wait to bring it to WE tv,” said Marc Juris, WE tv’s president. “Our featured couples will get a once-in-a-lifetime experience, while our viewers will get the kind of bold, break-through-the-clutter programming they increasingly associate with WE tv.”
Relativity’s Tom Forman and Brad Bishop executive produce alongside WE tv’s Juris and senior VP, original production and development Lauren Gellert.
