Chinese subscription video-on-demand platform Sohu has acquired The Simpsons from Fox.
The agreement for the popular animated series see The Simpsons get its first-ever official Chinese home.
The multiyear deal kicks off with the twenty sixth season of the show, which will debut US broadcast net Fox later this month.
The local version will be subtitled into Mandarin and will go out on Sohu’s Sohu Video service.
Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution distributes the series and brokered the deal.
“The introduction of The Simpsons, a household name in the US, will further enrich our users’ choice of the best American content when they come to our platform,” said Dr. Charles Zhang, chairman and CEO of Sohu.com Inc.
“The Simpsons is a unique television property, which has the ability to transcend worldwide cultural boundaries and has the capability to easily translate into any language,” added Mark Kaner, president of Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution.
Al Jean, executive producer of The Simpsons said: “Woo hoo! Now we can reveal Springfield is actually in Guangdong province.”
