AMC to replace Xbox on Channel 4 drama Humans
US cable channel AMC is boarding Humans, the Xbox drama that Channel 4 will air in the UK.
According to US reports, AMC is final stage negotiations to join the coproduction and take US rights.
The sci-fi is an eight-part drama that Channel4 and Xbox jointly commissioned in April as a remake of a Swedish SVT drama. Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley (Spooks) are adapting it in English, with Shine Group-owned UK producer Kudos attached to produce.
However, it’s future was plunged into doubt in July, when Microsoft decided to shutter Xbox Entertainment Studios, which was its original programming unit.
If confirmed, AMC will now US rights to Humans, which was originally slated to launch in North America via the Xbox games platform in 2015. The AMC Networks-owned channel declined to comment on reports.
US media sources suggest Warner Bros. is one potential buyer of the Xbox assets, with Deadline reporting the Hollywood studio planned to merge it with its video game-centric MCN Machinima.
