B’casters unlock deals for Australian drama The Code
Arte has acquired Australian drama The Code for France and Germany.
The series is distributed by DCD Rights, which has built a slate of premium Australian drama in recent years including Rake, The Slap and The Moody’s.
Six-part thriller The Code is produced by Australian indie Playmaker Media. It has also been bought by RUV in Iceland, ARTV in Canada and Lumiere in the Benelux region.
The series launched on Australian public broadcaster the ABC yesterday and has already been picked up by BBC Four in the UK, DirecTV in the US and Sundance Channel in Latin America.
“Australian drama has certainly come of age as a valuable contender for sought-after drama slots with leading broadcasters all over the world,” said Nicky Davies Williams, CEO, DCD Rights.
She added: “Over recent years there has been a real and obvious lift in production values and creative talent across the board – writing, production, acting – and we are extremely pleased to be part of this dynamic movement.”
