Disney Channel, pubcasters bag Winkler’s Zipzer
Four Disney Channel feeds and two European pubcasters are among buyers of Hank Zipzer, the live-action family comedy from Happy Days star Henry Winkler.
The Walt Disney Company has acquired the 26x30mins show for its flagship channel in Spain, Italy, Benelux and Latin America, while SVT in Sweden, NRK in Norway, ABC in Australia and e-Junior in the United Arab Emirates are also buyers.
The CBBC show is currently in its second season, and the deals distributor DHX Media secured this week are for all episodes.
Hank Zipzer follows a quirky 13-year-old boy that is based on Winkler’s experiences growing up. Winkler appears as a supportive school teacher.
It comes from UK indie Kindle Entertainment, which produces in association with Walker Productions, DHX and Screen Yorkshire, the latter of which provides funding through its Yorkshire Content Fund.
