Liz Hurley to make Royal appearance in Cannes
Elizabeth Hurley is heading to Cannes to promote her new Lionsgate series The Royals.
Hurley and her co-stars William Mosely and Alexandra Park will attend the opening night red carpet.
Lionsgate will screen The Royals to select buyers on the Tuesday of the market at the Majestic Barriere hotel.
The Royals will debut on E! in the US and marks the NBCUniversal-owned cable channel’s first move into original drama. It follows a fictitious but contemporary British royal family headed by Queen Helena (Hurley).
Mark Schwahn (One Tree Hill) is executive producer, writer and director of the show and another One Tree Hill alumnus, Brian Robbins, is also an exec producer.
Lionsgate is producing and distributing and will give the show its international launch at the market. It was shot in London, allowing Lionsgate to make use of the new UK tax break for high-end drama.
Speaking about the show, Kevin Beggs, chairman of the Lionsgate’s Television Group, recently told TBI that it will fall squarely into the guilty-pleasure category.
“From an American perspective it will follow something delicious and forbidden, about a family whose exploits we vicariously live though in the tabloids,” he said. “For countries that have a royal family, it will be more about wish fulfilment.”
