A&E channel heads to Spain, Portugal
A+E Networks’ general entertainment channel A&E will continue its international rollout next week with the launch of the channel in Spain and Portugal.
As with its launch in Germany, Austria and Switzerland last week, A&E will replace Bio in these territories.
A+E Networks initially announced its plan to roll out A&E in the German-speaking markets, Iberia and Africa back in July.
The channel offers a mix of entertainment including nonfiction franchises Wahlburgers, Duck Dynasty (pictured), Storage Wars, Barry’d Treasure, Bad Ink and Big Smo. A&E will also feature locally-commissioned productions and local acquisitions.
A&E’s initial European launch was in France in November last year.
A+E Networks’ managing director, Europe, Dean Possenniskie, told DTVE that A+E aimed to have a portfolio of four to six channels in each market in which it is present. The broadcaster recently launched its women-focused channel Lifetime in Africa and a major European launch is expected soon. Lifetime also replaced Bio in Israel in September.
