CBeebies plots new show from Teletubbies creator
UK preschool channel CBeebies has commissioned a series from Teletubbies creator Anne Wood.
Twirlywoos comes from Wood’s Ragdoll Productions, which is behind Teletubbies, In the Night Garden and Abney and Teal!.
Wood sold the commercial division of Ragdoll to Canada’s DHX Media last year for £17.4 million (US$27.7 million), after which a reboot of Teletubbies for CBeebies was also unveiled.
Twirlywoos will follow four bird-like creatures and feature a combination of stop frame animation and real world sequences.
Wood will executive produce Twirlywoos alongside Steve Roberts (Dipdap) and Chris Wood. DHX takes international distribution.
“I am delighted to be working with Ragdoll again,” said CBeebies controller Kay Benbow. “It’s been such a positive collaboration and Ragdoll have managed to develop a show that is not only brilliantly clever and funny, but which has a strong educational element underpinning it.”
