Genesis’ Mike Rutherford makes rock reality show
Genesis guitarist Mike Rutherford will feature in a new rock reality competition format, Birth of a Band.
Canadian distributor Peace Point Rights is launching the 13x90mins finished show and format, which was created by Nemo Planet Inc., at MIPCOM this week.
The format sees rock musicians from different vocal and instrumental categories cast via the internet. Rock bands are assembled from the most talented entrants who then live together, with their exploits filmed round the clock.
Rutherford and other rock stars will mentor and assess the contestants who will perform in a weekly linear TV series with the performers with the least votes eliminated.
“Assembling a band is a fantastic experience and I look forward to mentoring upcoming raw talent for this revolutionary TV show,” Rutherford said.
“Birth of a Band will promote raw musical talent looking to the future while sourcing their energy in the past and the incredible journeys of world class rock legends,” said Olivier Capt, founder, Nemo Planet. “In addition, the show will fully exploit social media – from casting to broadcasting – with a secret twist: a true revolution.”
Meanwhile, KISS frontman Gene Simmons is also in town launching a singing reality format. Simmons and Chris Philip, CEO of Sierra/Engine Television, have around 100 meetings lined up to discuss their show, Coliseum.
