Brazil’s TNT adapting Israeli sex industry drama
Turner Broadcasting System’s Brazilian channel TNT is creating local version of Israeli drama Allenby.
The commission marks TNT Brazil’s first large-scale original production, and will run to eight episodes, according to distributor Armoza Formats.
The original show is a psychological drama set on Tel Aviv’s nightlife spot Allenby Street, and follows a stripper that is plunged into a nightmare after a vicious assault. It aired on Israel’s Channel 10, with Inosan Productions attached as producer.
The local version, Rua Augusta, will be set on a street in Sao Paulo known for its intense nightlife. Production begins early next year, with an air date of late 2015 penciled in.
“The similarities between Allenby Street in Israel and Rua Augusta are magnificent; both are a part of each city’s history and the center of a sizzling nightlife, while also carrying the downsides of the nightlife, like sex, drugs and heavy rock ‘n’ roll,” said Rogério Gallo, VP, movies and series of Turner International in Brazil.
“These are great ingredients for a remarkable TV show. With this production, Turner strengthens its commitment to bring the best TV formats to the Brazilian audience, while always adapting it with a ‘local flavor’ for our audiences.”
