Amazon adds 4K content to Prime Instant Video
Amazon has added 4K, Ultra High-Definition movies and TV shows to its subscription VoD service, Amazon Prime Instant Video.
Amazon Prime customers will be able to access the Ultra HD content at no additional cost, with the first of this content to include Amazon Original series such as Alpha House, Transparent and children’s series Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street.
Amazon Studios-produced series, including Mozart in the Jungle, Bosch, The After and Red Oaks will also be available to stream in Ultra HD starting from later this year, while all seven of Amazon’s new originals pilots will also appear in this format.
Other content that will be available in UHD on Prime Instant Video includes Sony Pictures Entertainment titles such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Funny Girl, Hitch and Philadelphia, as well as acclaimed BBC America series Orphan Black and the concert movie Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga: Cheek to Cheek Live!
“We want to deliver the best entertainment experience, and offering Ultra HD movies and TV shows raises the bar on quality and innovation that customers have come to expect from Amazon,” said Michael Paull, vice-president, Amazon Digital Video.
“We’re also excited that Ultra HD is the latest benefit of the Amazon Prime membership, giving members instant access to great movies and TV shows in a premium picture resolution at no additional cost.”
The content will be available through the Amazon Instant Video app on compatible Ultra HD smart TV models from LG Electronics, Samsung and Sony.
