Canada’s low-cost Netflix rival buys Seinfeld
CraveTV, the low-cost Canadian OTT service from Bell, has added classic US comedy series Seinfeld to its line-up.
The new service launches tomorrow (December 11) and will offer all 180 episodes of Seinfeld.
CraveTV has exclusive streaming rights to the cult comedy, which was produced by Warner Bros.-owned Castle Rock Entertainment for NBC and is distributed by Sony Pictures Television. It ran for nine seasons on NBC, finishing in 1998.
Telco and media company Bell has been acquiring a large volume of TV fare for CraveTV (fka Project Latte), which, with its C$4 (US$3.52) monthly fee, will undercut streaming rivals Netflix and Shomi.
Comedy is a key component of the line-up, with 225 titles available at launch, comprising about 25% of all programming on the service.
