‘Landmark deal’ hands Hulu FX originals
US streaming service Hulu has scored a multiyear agreement for original productions from cable channel FX and its production sister.
The deal hands Hulu upcoming FX Productions series such as comedies Man Seeking Woman and The Comedians, Denis Leary’s Sex&Drugs&Roll&Roll, Tomy Hardy BBC coproduction Taboo and Fox event show Wayward Pines (pictured) for SVOD distribution.
The “landmark” deal, as Hulu is describing it, also includes current and upcoming seasons of Tyrant, The Strain, Married and You’re the Worst.
Hulu Plus customers have access to a number of shows as of now, with current FX series remaining available to cable and satellite subscribers through the FXNow app.
The deal also includes a co-marketing agreement in which FX Networks will provide significant promotion for Hulu across FX, FXX and FXM. Hulu will provide and on- and off-site branding for the shows that highlights the FX brand.
“FX Productions shares the same commitment to creating and distributing distinctive, high quality programming that we do here at Hulu. We are thrilled to begin this partnership, which will add a wide variety of popular series, and fresh, yet-to-air series to our ever expanding roster of great content,” said Craig Erwich, senior VP and head of content at Hulu.
Hulu has also licensed non-exclusive rights to Sons of Anarchy, American Horror Story, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Louie, Archer, The League and Wilfred.
Gina Brogi, executive VP of worldwide pay TV and SVOD at distributor Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution added the deal “represents how traditional TV and emerging platforms, such as Hulu, can work together and leverage their respective strengths, to satisfy the ever changing viewing habits of the audience”.
