Sky 1 prepares for Apocalypse Slough
UK satellite channel Sky 1 is putting a high-octane, epic drama about the end of the world at the centre of its latest drama slate.
Apocalypse Slough follows an eclectic group of people that gather together beneath the British town of Slough to watch the end of the world on television.
Beaver Falls’ Iain Hollands wrote the 10x60mins show, which NBCUniversal-owned Working Title TV and Big Ball Films are coproducing. Executive producers are Juliette Howell and Andrew Conrad for Working Title TV and Big Balls Films, and Cameron Roach and Lizzie Gray for Sky.
Characters in the drama include a British bank manager, an Italian nun, a female death row inmate, a Five Star US general, a White House civil servant and a bride with a one-eyed husband 30 years her junior, with the question of why they have been brought together hanging over them.
Announcements on further dramas will follow as Sky ups its investment in drama, but the show is being billed as a centrepiece of the 2015 slate. Previously-revealed new season dramas include Agatha Raisin: The Quiche of Death, medical series Critical and the final season of Strike Back.
“Apocalypse Slough is world-class, high concept new drama for Sky 1, Said Sky 1 director Adam MacDonald. “The show has bundles of energy, vibrancy and laughter, as well delivering an exuberant and heart-warming story on an epic scale.”
