News brief: Cisneros picks up teen telenovela
Cisneros Media Distribution has taken international rights to teen drama series Candela.
It will launch the 80x60mins Ony Productions series globally, beginning at NATPE this week with cast from the series in town.
The show follows a free-spirited teen who is forced to go and live with her biological father in a status-obsessed uptown suburb where she meets her first love.
The show comes from Patricia Maldonado, who counts popular Disney teen novella Floricenta among her credits.
“We believe this teen series has great potential since its story is completely universal, suitable for any market, while targeting a young demographic,” said Marcello Coltro, executive VP of Content Distribution for Cisneros Media.
“Candela is ideal for the US Hispanic market, and we are sure it will be widely successful throughout Latin America.”
