Amazon buys The White Queen
Amazon has taken exclusive US streaming rights to period drama The White Queen.
The series will be made available on the Prime Instant Video service in the US and Amazon has snagged exclusive US streaming rights.
The show is produced by UK prodco Company Pictures for premium cable net Starz in the US and the BBC in the UK.
Starz distributes it and struck the Amazon deal, marking the first content deal between Amazon and Starz Digital Media.
The show, which was shot in Belgium, is based upon Philippa Gregory’s series of bestselling novels set during the English Civil War: The White Queen, The Red Queen and The Kingmaker’s Daughter.
Brad Beale, vice president of digital video content acquisition for Amazon said: “Starz has an outstanding collection of programming, and we’re thrilled that one of their award-nominated miniseries will be added to the great selection of exclusive movies and TV shows that are included as part of Amazon Prime.”
