Amazon causes Catastrophe with SVOD deal
Amazon Prime Instant Video will get exclusive SVOD rights to Channel 4 comedy Catastrophe.
Amazon Studios is billing the show as part of its Amazon Originals range, though it has already run on UK terrestrial television and is set for a second season.
The show follows US comic Rob Delaney and Irish comic writer Sharon Horgan (Pulling) as an American-Irish couple struggling to make a relationship work initial lust leads to pregnancy.
Avalon Television, which has been in the news recently thanks to its offer to buy UK channel BBC Three, coproduces the show with Birdbath Productions and Horgan’s Merman Films, which launched last year.
The series will debut on Amazon in Spring this year and follow in the UK later in the year.
“Rob and Sharon have created an engaging, contemporary, funny and moving story,” said Roy Price, vice president of Amazon Studios. “We are excited to bring Catastrophe exclusively to our Amazon Prime customers and can’t wait to hear what they think of the series.”
