Netflix, BBC and Seven order kids Bottersnikes
Netflix, the BBC and Seven Network have teamed for Bottersnikes & Gumbles, a new animated series based on the S.A. Wakefield kids books.
The series will be produced by UK prodco Cheeky Little Media and Australia’s Mighty Nice. It will be distributed internationally by Cake. Hong Kong studio Kickstart will handle the animation.
The 52x11mins CGI comedy series will target 6-to-11s and follow three young ‘Gumbles’, Tink, Bounce and Willi, as they play while avoiding their grumpy neighbours the Bottersnikes.
The S.A. Wakefield books, with illustrations by Desmond Digby, were published in the UK and Australia between 1967 and 1989.
Free-to-air Australian broadcaster Seven Network will premiere the series on its services in Australia, and UK digital kids channel CBBC will premiere the series on its services in the UK.
SVOD service Netflix will premiere the series globally across all markets in all of its international territories aside from these.
Tom van Waveren, CEO and creative director, Cake said: “Every element of this series permeates the passion that the core creative team have had for this universe from their youngest age.”
David Webster, creative director, Cheeky Little Media said: “The world we are privileged to be creating here is truly original and is going to blow kids’ minds.”
