Scandi nets travel to Deutschland 83
Five north European channels have prebought buzzy German Cold War drama Deutschland 83.
SVT in Sweden, NRK in Norway, DR in Denmark, YLE in Finland and RUV in Iceland have all joined the US’s SundanceTV in acquiring the RTL series.
FremantleMedia International has global sales rights and has been heavily touting it in recent months. The coming-of-age drama, set in 1980s East and West Germany, follows a young spy sent undercover by the Stasi secret service to gather secrets on NATO military strategy.
FremantleMedia-owned UFA Fiction produced the show for RTL.
“Following on from its Berlinale International Film Festival selection and World Premiere, Deutschland 83 has continued to go from strength to strength,” said FMI’s senior VP, international distribution for Benelux, Scandinavia and Ireland, Justin Hatfield.
“The series received a number of glowing reviews from global TV critics and is now is set to travel to key networks across Scandinavia.”
