BBC looking for disability programming exec

The BBC is recruiting for a disability executive, who will support efforts to improve programming, commissioning and the portrayal of disabled people across the UK public broadcaster’s services.

The exec will champion disabled talent and disability-related production and help the pubcaster reach its stated aim of quadrupling disabled representation on screen by 2017.

The creation of the new position follows measures outlined by the BBC last year to improve the representation of disabled people on TV, building on the Extend programme that is designed to help disabled people to work in production.

Joe Godwin (pictured), former BBC Childrens boss and now director of the training and development unit BBC Academy, says: “The BBC is looking for a talented and collaborative person to work across our TV, radio and online content, to help us improve the portrayal of disability in all our programming.

“There is a lot of great work already going on around the BBC, but having one person responsible for really pushing this agenda and bringing ideas to life will help us have a bigger impact.”
