VOD platform bags film festival faves
Ad-supported on-demand service Popcornflix has acquired a selection of prizewinning films from US-based indie distributor Film Movement.
The deal comprises movies from 30 territories and every continent, and includes Cannes Film Festival Special Jury Prize winner A Screaming Man, Sundance Jury Prize winner Manito and The Way I Spent the End of the World, whose star, Dorotheea Petre, won the Best Actress award at Cannes.
There are also films based on Brazilian dance culture – Only When I Dance, and a comedy about four Iranian men grappling with middle age, Men at Work.
“The streaming revolution isn’t just about providing greater access to mega box office hits and standard Hollywood fare,” said Popcornflix’s executive VP, Dave Fannon. “Viewers are also looking for new ways to view outstanding international cinema – wherever and whenever they want to watch. Popcornflix meets that demand, providing free access to intelligent, compelling titles online, on mobile or via gaming consoles, streaming devices and Smart TVs.”
US indie motion picture company Screen Media Ventures owns Popcornflix, which offers TV series and movies.
