Cable net GSN swats up with Man vs. Fly
GSN has ordered two original series and acquired international shortform gameshow series Man vs. Fly.
The US cable net, which is owned by Sony and DirecTV, has greenlit new originals Steampunk’d and Lie Detectors.
The former is billed as a skill-based competition format in which contestants must unite objects from the present and past using a Steampunk aesthetic.
Lie Detectors has a panel of comedians present outrageous ‘facts’ to the studio audience, which then decides which is true and which facts false. The audience member guessing fastest then competes for a cash prize.
Separately, GSN has bought 50 episodes of Man vs. Fly (pictured), the gameshow produced by Sony-backed UK indie Gogglebox. It is distributed by Sony Pictures Television, which struck the GSN deal. The cable net will also pilot a local version of the show with Gogglebox.
In the three-minute show contestants have to swat a fly against the clock while inside a sealed box. It launched as a game on the website of UK tabloid paper The Sun.
