Pernel to remake BBC One drama
France’s Pernel Media has acquired remake rights to Key Mellor’s BBC One drama series In the Club.
The BBC recently ordered a second season of the 6x60mins series (pictured) from Mellor’s indie, Rollem Productions, which has sold the French rights to Samuel Kissous’s company.
Pernel has previously created French versions of UK shows such as Cash Cab, Dinner Date and Great British Menu, though this marks the first time it has taken rights to a British scripted show.
The dramas follows six women facing the struggles of pregnancy that form close bonds together as they move towards parenthood.
“At Pernel Media we’ve always admired Kay Mellor’s work,” said Kissous, Pernel’s founder and president. “Combined with our recent successes with 4 Babies a Second and the growing trend for scripted formats in France, it became obvious that we should jump at the chance to offer broadcasters the opportunity of bringing In the Club to France”.
