US streamer Acorn buys The Driver
US OTT service Acorn TV has picked up SVOD rights to UK drama series.
Acorn is run by RLJ, the company that owns the Agatha Christie catalogue, and is programmed with British drama.
Its recent Brit-drama acquisitions include Foyle’s War from All3Media and Jamaica Inn from BBC Worldwide. It has added to these by picking up The Driver, the Content Media-distributed contemporary drama that went out on BBC One in the UK.
It will launch episodes of the thriller on Mondays, starting April 13. The series stars David Morrissey (The Walking Dead) as a driver who gets caught up in the criminal underworld.
Miguel Penella, chief executive officer of RLJ Entertainment, Inc., said: “We’re excited to bring our growing fan base of British drama and mystery lovers a first-rate thriller in The Driver. David Morrissey gives a masterful performance as an ordinary man facing dire circumstances.”
Acorn TV costs $4.99 a month or $49.99/year. RLJ will also release the three-part miniseries DVD in the US.
