NBC lands on Bear Grylls’ Island
US broadcaster NBC has ordered a local version of Bear Grylls-fronted Channel 4 adventurer series The Island.
NBC will run a six-episode social experiment series in which 14 men will attempt to live on an unmanned island.
The show is based on Shine TV format The Island, which first went out on Channel 4 in the UK. Endemol Shine International sells the show on the global market.
Endemol Shine North America will produce the US version with Bear Grylls Ventures. Grylls, Eden Gaha, Michael Brooks, Holly Wofford and Delbert Shoopman will executive produce.
“This experiment reveals, in a shocking way, whether modern man, when pushed, can still summon all the resolve, ingenuity and strength that traditionally made a man’s man – or whether our society’s cushioning has meant we have lost those hard-earned skills of our ancestors,” said Grylls.
NBC already runs another Grylls series, Running Wild.
