SVT goes big on docs in Cannes
The sales arm of Swedish pubcaster SVT is bringing its largest-ever documentary slate to Cannes for MIPTV.
SVT International will be selling nine docs, plus lifestyle series and comedy drama series Taxi.
The doc slate comprises Hallo Dakar, The Gymnast Who Learned to Walk, Life Should Be Lived, Astrid Lendgren, Khao Lak, A Dangerous Idea, The Madonna Case, Chasing the Snow Leopard and A Year with the Swedish Royal Family.
Hello Dakar is a humorous doc about a Swedish call centre opening in Senegal, which follows locals taking a crash course in Swedish to become fluent in the language in just seven months.
The Gymnast… tells the story of a promising gymnast’s miraculous recovery after a sever accident suffered while practicing. It comes from Swedish documentary maker Tom Alandh.
On the lifestyle front comes a pair of series, Model Girls and Model Boys, whilch follows Swedish models oh photo and fashion shoots around the world. Both series were initially commissioned for SVT’s web platform.
Taxi, meanwhile, which also debuted online, follows the interactions of a middle-class couple at a crossroads in their relationship, as they take various cab journeys.
