Power sets up UK-Canada period tech drama
White Pine Pictures, STV Productions and Power are joining forces to produce Wire Men, a period drama about the invention of the telephone and the rivalry between Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison.
Chronicling the early tech war against the backdrop of America’s race to become the industrial and technological leader of the world, the series is based on Charlotte Gray novel Reluctant Genius: Alexander Graham Bell and the Passion for Invention.
The partnership between executive producers Peter Raymont, from Toronto-based White Pine Pictures, Alan Clements and Sarah Brown, from Scotland’s STV Productions, and Susan Waddell, CEO of Power, was initiated at MIPCOM last year and formalised at MIPTV today.
The series will be produced as a UK-Canada treaty coproduction and Power is handling international sales.
