Family Guy moving to BBC Two pre-ITV

American animated sitcom Family Guy will switch from BBC Three to BBC Two in the UK before moving to commercial channel ITV in 2017.

BBC Two and BBC Four controller Kim Shillinglaw made the announcement last night at a preview event, during which she also revealed new programmes from the likes of Sue Perkins, Nigella Lawson, Daniel Radcliffe and the team behind BBC Three comedy Him & Her.

The future of Family Guy on the BBC has been unclear since BBC director general Tony Hall announced the closure of the linear BBC Three channel last year.

It emerged last month that BBC rival ITV had swooped to acquire rights to the Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution-sold show, which follows the exploits of the oddball Griffin family in the fictional town of Quahog.

The show’s 13^th season is now transitioning to BBC Two before it moves to ITV in two years time.

Other new shows include 1x90mins factual drama special Game Changer (WT), which stars Harry Potter’s Radcliffe and Bill Paxton (Texas Rising) about the controversy that surrounds violent UK-produced video game series Grand Theft Auto since its inception.

The BBC is producing in-house and was commissioned by head of natural history and specialist factual formats Tom McDonald.

Mum, meanwhile, comes from the writing and production team behind Him & Her. The 6x30mins comedy will follows Lesley Manville (Another Year) as a mother in her 50s that rebuilds her life after the death of her husband.

ITV Studios-owned Big Talk Productions is producing. Him & Her’s writer Stefan Golaszewski, director Richard Laxton, producer Lyndsay Robinson and executive producer Kenton Allen are all attached.

“It’s an amazing privilege to breathe life into Stefan’s distinctive take on the family sitcom with the same team that made Him & Her,” said Big Talk CEO Allen.

Elsewhere, in-house-produced Stag is a three-part dark comedy thriller from Jim Field Smith and George Kay about a meek schoolteacher struggling to survive the stag weekend from hell, while Two Doors Down is billed as a comedy about “Scottish families at their best and worst”.

New factual shows include Children of the Gaza War; Old School, a Maverick TV show featuring BBC presenters the Hairy Bikers; and The Great Pottery Throw Down, a spin-off of The Great British Bake Off that comes from Love Productions.

Simply Nigella (pictured above), meanwhile, is TV cook Lawson’s latest series, and will see her talk through a handful of recipes each episode wile giving tips of how to create them. BBC Production is on hand to produce.

Round off the new shows are Gareth Malone vehicle The Naked Choir, from Twenty Twenty; hairdresser format Hair, from BBC Documentaries; Britain’s Forgotten Slave Owners; Oxford Scientific Films-produced Let Us Entertain You; and Dr. Brian Cox-fronted science challenge Six Degrees.

Himalaya With Sue Perkins stars the Bake Off presenter and comes from Indu Films, Meet the Roman Empire is from Lion TV, The Detectives comes from Minnow Films, and Celts, Wildest Tribes, Atlantic – Earth’s Wildest Ocean, Japan: Earth’s Enchanted Islands and Cosmic Dawn – the Real Moment of Creation are in-house efforts.
