US drama Parenthood getting Italian remake

Italian pubcaster Rai has ordered a local version of US network comedy Parenthood.

The format is owned and distributed by NBCUniversal, which has struck a deal with Cattleya, the Italian prodco that made Romanzo Criminale and Gomorrah.

It will make the Italian version of the family drama, Tutto Può Succedere (Anything Could Happen), for Rai’s flagship Rai 1 channel. It is the first time that Rai has ever ordered a remake of a US show.

In the US the series went out on NBC, with Jason Katims (pictured) attached the helm the project. The Italian series will run to 13x100mins.

Eleonora Andreatta, director of Rai Fiction, said: “Parenthood is a quality family drama that perfectly blends humour and heartbreak and I am excited to explore its themes within a contemporary Italian multi-generational setting”.

Riccardo Tozzi, president of Cattleya added: “We fell in love with Parenthood the first time we watched it and immediately recognised how well it could be adapted to contemporary Italian society, in which the concept of family and its love hate dynamics remain at the core.”
