Hell on Wheels joins MENA SVOD platform
AMC’s post-American Civil War drama Hell on Wheels has been picked up by a Middle East and North African-focused subscription on-demand platform.
icflix has acquired the show from distributor Entertainment One Television and will launch in May. The platform already has eOne-sold shows including The Red Road, Welcome to Sweden and The Book of Negroes.
The deal marks the first time Hell on Wheels, which Endemol USA developed before eOne and Nomadic Pictures took on coproduction duties, has played in the Middle East.
The show is set around the construction of the US’s First Transcontinental Railway in the 1860s. A fifth and final season will go out in two parts in the US this year and next.
“This is a compelling and dramatic series that chronicles a turning point in America’s history,” said Carlos Tibi, CEO of icflix. “This will be a great series for viewers in the region, especially for those who love action and classic westerns,” he further added.
Endemol Shine International sells the show in Europe, with eOne holding sales rights elsewhere.
