Global stocks up on US series for new season
Shaw-owned Canadian net Global has bought a slew of new US series for its fall schedule.
The free-TV broadcaster has acquired ten big-ticket dramas that launched at the LA Screenings last month, including Supergirl and movie reboots Limitless and Minority Report.
The net has struck deals with several of the US majors to secure the new shows.
Supergirl gets a Monday 8pm slot on Global. It is distributed by Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Distribution, which has also shopped Containment, the epidemic containment drama adapted from a Belgian format, to the Canadian channel.
Limitless (right) will go out at 10pm on Tuesdays. It hails from CBS Studios International, and Global also bought Jane Lynch comedy Angel from Hell from the studio. The latter is scheduled for 8pm on Fridays.
Minority Report comes from 20th Century Fox Television Distribution and will go out Mondays at 9pm.
Global acquired several of NBCUniversal International Television Distribution including Heroes: Reborn (Thursday at 8pm), medical dramas Heartbreaker (Wednesday at 9pm) and Chicago Med and Jennifer Lopez police drama Shades of Blue.
“With compelling, buzzed about new shows, and huge stars joining the lineup this fall, Global has a formidable combination of dramas, comedies, and thrilling action series to build upon the massive success of returning hits like the NCIS franchise, The Good Wife, and The Blacklist,” said Christine Shipton, senior VP and chief creative officer, Shaw Media.
