NMV bags ‘Spanish Wonder Years’
London-based New Media Vision has snagged format rights to a long-running TVE drama dubbed the ‘Spanish Wonder Years’.
Remember When, known locally as Cuéntame Como Paso, has run for 15 years on Spain’s pubcaster, and been its number one-rated drama every year since launch.
The show follows events of the late 1960s through the filter of a working-class family comprising three generations that pursues a middle-class dream.
It has garnered various awards and been adapted in Italy, Portugal, Greece, Czech Republic and Ecuador.
New Media Vision, which packages, produces and distributes formats for the US market, has acquired format rights to the 250-plus scripts from producer Grupo Ganga Productions.
The firm secured the deal soon after NBC confirmed a second season of procedural The Mysteries of Laura, which NMV sold into the US and helped adapt after acquiring rights from another Spanish producer, Grupo Boomerang.
“We always believed in the international possibilities for our format Remember When,” said Grupo Ganga’s Miguel Ángel Bernardeau. “When Todd [Lituchy, NMV founder and CEO, pictured] approached us with the idea of a US adaptation. after his success adapting The Mysteries of Laura for NBC, we knew that he was ‘the right stuff’.”
