Netflix raises price in the UK, Brazil
Streaming service Netflix has increased its basic UK monthly subs fee.
The SVOD service has upped the price of the basic standard definition offer from £6.99 a month to £7.49 (US$10.81 to US$11.59).
It notified subs this week of the change, which will only impact new customers, although Netflix customers often churn and re-subscribe as there is no requirement for a long-term subscription.
Existing subs will be billed the previous £6.99 monthly fee for a year.
“In order to continue adding more TV programmes and films, including great Netflix series such as House of Cards and Better Call Saul, we are increasing our price for new members,” Netflix said in its note to customers.
The US-based streaming service is investing billions in content and also rolling out around the world. In Europe, the UK is its biggest market and is slated to grow 250% in the next few years, according to forecasts issued this week.
Netflix confirmed the UK price change and said it has also raised prices in Brazil. The other international services are unaffected.
