Netflix ignites Lady Dynamite comedy

Streaming service Netflix has ordered an original comedy from Maria Bamford.

Lady Dynamite will be based on what comedian Bamford has accepted to be her life as she gets her life together, and includes occasionally surreal episodes.

Pam Brady, Mitch Hurwitz and Bamford executive produce the Netflix-produced show, which will run to 13 half-hour episodes.

The news comes soon after Netflix ordered a comedy from Aziz Ansari, a commission that followed a spate of others in the genre.

The US-based platform is pushing further into scripted than any previous point this year.
