Cake to help Angry Birds migrate
UK-based distributor Cake has acquired distribution rights to Rovio Entertainment’s animated series of the Angry Birds mobile app.
Under terms of the agreement, Cake gets to represent the entire catalogue of Angry Birds Toons shorts, and spin-offs Angry Birds Stella and Piggy Tales.
Angry Birds Toons launched digitally in 2013 via video channel ToonsTV, through the mega-popular apps, on television channels in more than 50 territories and other platforms.
Finland-based Rovio claims ToonsTV videos have amassed more than five billion views since launch.
New episodes of Angry Birds Toons and Angry Birds Stella are currently in production, with the first of the new batch set to launch in September.
“Rovio Animations operates purely in the world of creation and has an ever expanding slate of projects in development,” said Steve Pegram, head of Rovio’s animation production arm, Rovio Animations Studios.
“Partnering with distributors like Cake, one of the world’s leading kids and family entertainment distributors, enables us to give the Angry Birds fans the opportunity of seeing that content world-wide.”
