Egyptian telco adds Mid East SVOD platform

Egyptian internet service provider TE Data has begun offering customers Middle Eastern subscription on-demand service icflix.

The Telecoms Egypt-owned service has scored a strategic partnership with icflix, and this month began offering the platform’s array of movies and television series from the Middle East, Hollywood and Bollywood.

All TE Data customers have been given one month of icflix free to tie in with the Ramadan fasting period, but will need to pay a monthly subscription going forwards after that.

“Our partnership will offer TE Data customers across Egypt a new avenue of viewing choice. This is great news for those who enjoy watching movies and TV series on-demand,” said Carlos Tibi, CEO and founder of icflix.

“As part of this Ramadan offering, TE Data customers will be able to watch exclusively season one of the highly anticipated fictional TV series, Alf Leila we Leila (1001 Nights) and Wesh Tany amongst the wide range of content available from icflix.”

icflix launched in 2013 as the Middle East’s first SVOD service, and has expanded internationally since then. Netflix will likely launch in the region at some point before the end of 2016 as it expands into 200 territories.
