NBCUniversal nets Shark Island for pay TV
NBCUniversal has acquired worldwide rights to Shark Island and will show the upcoming TV movie on its pay TV channels globally.
It has acquired the creature disaster movie from distributor Daro Film Distribution. NBCU’s Syfy channel has enjoyed great success with the Sharknado franchise
Its new ‘creature feature’ and follows a group of ex-government employees who are carrying out secret experiments on captured sharks, one of which escapes and infects other sharks with a toxic mix of experimental drugs, creating ‘zombie sharks’. Former Degrassi star Cassie Steele is among the cast.
Daro’s other creature features include Swamp Shark and Ice Spiders. Company president Pierre Andre Rochat said: “We are seeing continually strong international performance from this genre, and our recent global deal with NBC Universal is an excellent example of this.”
