Disney EMEA to remake Israeli teen drama
Disney EMEA is to remake Disney Channel Israeli original musical drama North Star.
The live-action series will likely feature a UK cast with filming commencing in spring next year ahead of launch of Disney Channels across EMEA later in 2016.
The 13x22mins show, also titled North Star as a working title, is based on a Disney Channel original from Israel. It follows the complicated life of a 15-year-old girl who returns to her childhood holiday lodge with her father after the death of her mother.
The Israeli show launched in November 2014 and has rated well. It followed on from Disney’s strategy to launch local live-action properties that has already seen the creation of telenovela Violetta and The Evermoor Chronicles.
This production demonstrates our commitment to creating shows that resonate with both local and global audiences,” said David Levine, VP of programming, production and strategic development, Disney Channels EMEA and general manager, Disney Channels UK & Ireland (pictured).
Zodiak Kids Studios UK’s production arm, The Foundation, is attached to produce the show.
“Disney EMEA is a great partner and this commission exemplifies their commitment to producing live-action in Europe,” said Zodiak Kids Studios CEO Michael Carrington, who will executive produce the programme.
