Priestly, Ringwald for new DHX comedy
DHX’s Family Channel has ordered The Wonderful Wayneys, a family comedy starring Jason Priestley (Beverly Hills: 90210) and Molly Ringwald (The Breakfast Club).
The pair will star as seemingly perfect parents of five kids. From Arrested Development exec producer Tom Saunders, the series will follow the Wayneys’ attempts to raise “multi-exceptional” offspring and cope with their youngest child, Emmett, who singularly fails to live up to his parents’ expectations.
Filming starts in Toronto next week and the 26x26mins series will debut on Family Channel next spring.
The series will be produced by Aircraft Pictures and Dolphin Entertainment. TBI could not confirm who will sell the series internationally at press time, but DHX is not handling distribution.
“Exploring family dynamics is a new challenge that we’re looking forward to embarking on with The Wonderful Wayneys and the ability to tell the Wayneys’ story in a comedic fashion brings a new element to our programming roster,” said Michael Goldsmith, vice president, original production, DHX Television.
He added: “Being able to offer a comedy that appeals to the entire family is an exciting opportunity and we’re confident that this show will have something for everyone.”
