CW books date with Voorhees on Friday the 13th
US broadcast network The CW has put a TV adaptation to the Friday the 13th horror film series into development.
According to US reports from the Television Critics Association tour, the series will reimagine iconic masked serial killer Jason Voorhees as being more grounded in reality than the slasher movies.
Steve Mitchell and Craig Van Sickle (The Pretender) will write the adaptation, which has Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment attached as producers.
Sean S. Cunningham, who oversaw the original 1980 movie that launched the franchise, is executive producing along with Randall Emmett, George Furla, Mark Canton, Mitchell and Sickle.
To date, there have been twelve features in the franchise, with the most recent coming in the shape of a reboot in 2009.
The CW is also developing TV versions of feature film The Notebook and sci-fi movie Frequency, and a reworking of Archie Comics Riverdale with Greg Berlanti.
