FX buys Straight Outta Compton

FX has snagged the rights to hit NWA movie Straight Outta Compton.

The US cable net has picked up the movie, which chronicles the story of gangster rap group N.W.A. and has been a big box office hit in the US.

The film grossed US$60.2 million in its first weekend in the US, the fifth highest August movie launch ever.

FX Networks has paid an undisclosed amount for the movie, taking rights across its FX, FXX, FXM channels and the video-on-demand platform FXNOW.

Fox’s FX has been investing heavily in features, taking exclusive TV rights to movies including Rogue Nation, Minions, Jurassic World and Trainwreck this year.

The cable channels group said that last year it bought rights to almost 70% of all of the movies that grossed over US$100 million.
