Ex-Core US TV chief lands Lionsgate role
Jennifer O’Connell (pictured) has landed a new alternative programming post at Lionsgate Entertainment, just weeks after she exited Core Media Group.
At the US studio, she takes the newly-created role of executive VP, alternative programming, having been head of US television at Core until last month.
She will now oversee development and production of Lionsgate’s unscripted slate across all platforms.
“Expanding our footprint in alternative programming is a high priority for Lionsgate and we’re delighted Jennifer is joining us to help lead that effort,” said Lionsgate TV Group chairman Kevin Beggs.
“She is a highly accomplished executive and an important addition to our senior management team as we continue to build and diversify our television business.”
Her exit from Core was linked to a refinancing effort. The US-based firm’s high-debt pile was cited in a US report as a reason why Core was not included in the Endemol Shine Group following the merger of Core, Endemol and Shine Group.
At Core, she launched the firm’s TV division and oversee shows such as Pop’s Sing It On and truTV’s Hair Jacked. Before that, she had spent five years as Shed Media US’s EVP, development and production, and seven at broadcaster NBC, where she held roles in the movies/miniseries and alternative programming units.
