Netflix to Get Away with Murder
Netflix has acquired international rights to Shonda Rhimes’ ABC series How to Get Away with Murder.
The US-listed SVOD firm has taking exclusive worldwide streaming rights to the first season of the crime show as broadcast net ABC prepares to launch season two as part of its fall schedule.
The show performed well for ABC in its first run and was the network’s best-rating new show for the 2014/15 season. The crime series follows a law professor who gets entangled in a murder conspiracy with some of her students.
Sean Carey, vice president, domestic TV at Netflix said: “We’re excited to offer global audiences season one of How to Get Away With Murder, offering members a chance to discover it for the first time or relive the drama of season one before the new season’s premiere.”
Disney-ABC Home Entertainment and Television Distribution president Janice Marinelli added: “This agreement to make our season one episodes available underscores the value of this series, and reinforces the overall popularity of How to Get Away with Murder on ABC and its other first-run platforms around the world.
The deal with Disney-owned ABC follows a wider Netflix-Disney deal that will give the streaming service slew of the studio’s feature films from next year.
