Netflix buys J.K. Rowling biopic

Streaming service Netflix has acquired a live-action biopic of Harry Potter writer J.K. Rowling for its Latin American feeds.

The deal for the 1x90mins Magic Beyond Words with Spain’s Imira Entertainment also includes 52x13mins animated toon Sandra Fairytale Detective.

Imira has also sold feature-length animated film Gaturro to Cartoon Network Latin America and The Hero of Color City to Discovery Networks Latin America, which operates a local Discovery Kids channel in the region.

Meanwhile, DirecTV has acquired four films, The Living Forest, Crab Island, Entre Vivir y Soñar and El Habitante Incierto, and four seasons of animated comedy Rat-a-Tat for its Hispanic US operation.

Imira is part of India’s Toonz Entertainment following a sale almost a year ago.
