US net buys ITV’s Beowulf
US cable channel Esquire Network has acquired ITV reimagining of the Beowulf story.
Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands will debut exclusively in the US early next year following its launch on ITV on UK commercial television.
The 13x60mins show is one of distributor ITV Studios Global Entertainment’s big MIPCOM launches. It stars Kieran Bew (Da Vinci’s Demons) as the lead character and is billed as “a spectacular reimagining of one of literature’s most enduring heroes”.
“Delivering well-produced, engaging programming to our audience is vital, and we’re excited to bring such an action-packed, scripted adventure series to Esquire with the launch of Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands,” said Esquire’s executive VP of development and production Matt Hanna.
Craig Bohland, ITVSGE’s VP, sales for North America brokered the deal for the ITV Studios-produced show.
