Corus pushes distribution, inks US sales
The content sales arm of Canadian media giant Corus has shopped two shows into the US.
US cable net ABC Family has picked up Cheer Stars and cable channel operator Scripps has acquired Masters of Flip.
The news was announced at MIPCOM where Corus is selling its content as part of a wider attempt to move more deeply into international distribution.
Good Human Productions’ Cheer Stars follows the reigning World Champion competitive cheerleading team, the Great White Sharks, as they set out to defend their world championship title. It will debut in Canada on the ABC Spark specialty channel next summer.
Masters of Flip is on Corus specialty net W Network in Canada and will launch in December in the US on one of Scripps’ channels. The reality series hails from Rhino Content and follows property developers and Dave Wilson (stars of CMT Canada’s Meet the Wilsons) as they renovate and sell run-down homes.
John MacDonald, executive VP, television, head of women and family, Corus, said: “These broadcast deals significantly expand the exposure for our original content and we look forward to sharing our growing slate of unscripted programming to the international market at MIPCOM.”
