US, UK, Germany lead in kids SVOD
The US and Germany are the leading kids SVOD territories in terms of the amount of content acquired by streaming services, according to new research.
Media research house Ampere Analysis examined the number of kids TV shows and movies being licensed around the world. The UK is the third-largest kids SVOD buyer and Latin America is also emerging as a key region for kids streaming.
Ampere found that Disney was the largest single content supplier to SVOD with Warner Bros., Viacom, Sony and NBCUniversal also counted as leading providers of kids content.
The US is a clear overall leader, with 2,336 titles licensed to SVOD. In Germany the total is 1,604 and in the UK 1,184. Lat Am is ranked as fast-growing with three countries – Argentina, Brazil and Mexico – all in the overall top ten and each acquiring over 800 kids titles for streaming.
In terms of the overall number of animated titles being sold to SVOD, the US leads the way, but as a proportion of all kids content sold to streaming services, animation is a larger proportion of the whole in Australia, Canada and the UK.
In terms of overall titles licensed, the top ten territories, in order, were: US, Germany, UK, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Norway, Sweden and, in tenth, Australia.
