UKTV launches VOD service on Amazon
UK channels group UKTV has launched its catch-up and on-demand service UKTV Play on Amazon’s Fire TV media player.
A free UKTV Play app will allow consumers to access content via the Amazon Fire TV player and Fire TV Stick.
The app allows users to create collections of UKTV shows under a ‘My List’ function, which will now also be added to other UKTV Play services on other platforms.
UKTV, which is owned by Scripps Networks Interactive and BBC Worldwide, launched its Play service last summer. As well as Amazon Fire TV and the Fire TV Stick it is accessible via YouView, Virgin TV and BT TV.
UKTV Play has content from UKTV channels including Dave, Yesterday, Really and Drama.
UKTV’s CEO Darren Childs (left) said: “As UKTV Play passes its first birthday, this launch marks another exciting step in the growth of the service.
“UKTV continues to invest in its on demand services and in making brilliant, original programming, meaning our viewers can watch their favourite UKTV shows such as Dave Gorman Modern Life is Goodish and Taskmaster anytime, anywhere.”
“UKTV Play is another great addition to the Amazon Fire TV platform,” added Steve Rabuchin, vice president, Amazon Appstore. “With Fire TV, we’re building a world-class open ecosystem that delivers access to the best catch up and on demand TV services, and UKTV Play will enable our customers to enjoy even more high quality and original British programming than ever before.”
