Netflix cuts Vodafone deal in Portugal
Netflix has struck a deal with Vodafone Portugal to be included as part of Vodafone’s TV offering in the country.
Netflix, which is available in Portugal from today, following yesterday’s launch in Spain and ahead of the SVOD service’s launch in Italy tomorrow, will be included in Vodafone’s service from November 4.
Netflix in Portugal will offer subscribers access to a wide range of content including series Narcos, Orange is the New Black, and Marco Polo, documentaries Virunga and Mission Blue and original film Beasts of No Nation.
Missing from the line-up is flagship series House of Cards, the Portuguese rights for which have been sold to local broadcaster SIC.
Content will be subtitled in Portuguese and the service will be accompanied by a recommendation engine that allows users to create up to five different personalised profiles.
With a 5.9% share, Vodafone is the number four player in the Portuguese pay TV market, behind market leader Nos, Altice-owned Portugal Telecom and cable operator Cabovisão.
Vodafone will market the service’s availability on its platform with a multimedia campaign featuring two local TV personalities, Nuno Markl and Rui Pêgo.
